Objectives
Previous lab research has found temperatures >50C can kill PA oospores when exposed for a few hours. This project continues with this theme in developing temperature treatment protocols to kill oospores in nursery plants and associated potting mix and soil.
Outcomes
Research has found that heating moist soil to 50°C for 72 hours, across all soil types will effectively eliminate P. agathidicida oospore viability. Further research is required to test whether temperatures can kill oospores in infected kauri seedlings while maintaining seedling viability.
