One of the programme strategic outcomes is to protect iconic trees and stands from kauri dieback. What defines an ‘iconic’ tree or stand is an important first step. A desktop review was carried out to identify publically known trees as a pre-cursor to defining what an ‘iconic tree’ is. The provision of baseline information that captures each tree’s characteristics and the trees risk of infection to Kauri Dieback was also listed.

A list of trees was provided based on public perception/awareness. Further work is required to refine the process under Stage 2.
